WHEELING, W.Va. — April 15, 2026 — After two decades as a destination for fine food and wine in Wheeling, Good Mansion Wines is entering a new chapter.
Founded in 2006, Dominick Cerrone has owned and operated the business in East Wheeling for the past two decades. As of April 8, 2026, he has sold the business to new owners, Alex Panas and Betsy Sweeny. The business will remain open and operating as usual, with a focus on preserving the experience customers have come to know while thoughtfully building for the future.
Since rolling out the red carpet in 2006, Good Mansion Wines has grown from a specialty wine shop into a one-of-a-kind food and wine destination. Rooted in Cerrone’s passion for Old World wines, the shop quickly became known for its depth of European offerings and its representation of all 20 Italian regions, drawing customers from across the tri-state area and beyond.
Today, that foundation has expanded to include a refined selection of both Old World and New World wines.
In 2014, the shop reached a major milestone with the addition of a bakery at the rear of the building, expanding beyond retail to include housemade breads, pastries, and prepared foods. The bakery was shaped in large part by French pastry chef Olivier Thiry, whose influence remains today as he continues to contribute during this next chapter of the business.
Today, the shop offers authentic pastries and desserts, fresh bread baked daily, and housemade pasta, all complementing a growing selection of European specialty foods and imported meats and cheeses.
The new owners, Alex Panas and Betsy Sweeny, are not new to Good Mansion. Discussions about the sale and transition began in 2025 with both women training in all aspects of the business with Cerrone, learning its operations, contributing to its daily rhythm, and building relationships with customers and staff. Their intent is for this transition to reflect a continuation rather than a reset.
“We’ve both spent our careers supporting small businesses and building community, so the opportunity to step into something with this kind of history and connection felt really meaningful,” said Panas. “It’s rare to have the chance to carry something like this forward, and it’s not something we take lightly.”
Prior to joining Good Mansion Wines, Panas and Sweeny worked together at Wheeling Heritage, where they focused on economic and community development—supporting small businesses, strengthening local economies, and creating experiences that bring people together.
Sweeny brings a background in architectural history and preservation and has restored her own historic home in East Wheeling. Before stepping into her role at Good Mansion, Panas founded Alex’s Sourdough Shop, a microbakery known for its naturally leavened breads, selling at farmers markets and partnering with local restaurants and businesses. Together, they bring complementary skills and a shared vision that position them well to steward the future of Good Mansion Wines.
“The business that Dominick and Olivier have built is one-of-a-kind, and I’m so excited to work with Alex to continue that legacy. Not only is it an incredible business, but the building is a testament to the incredible architecture and history of Wheeling,” said Sweeny. “East Wheeling is home for me, and this is a natural next step in continuing to invest in the neighborhood’s future.”
Under new ownership, Good Mansion will continue its emphasis on a thoughtfully curated selection of wines, imported specialty foods, and housemade breads and prepared offerings. The shop will maintain the same atmosphere and quality customers have come to expect, with gradual, intentional enhancements introduced over time, and familiar faces remaining behind the counter.
Cerrone will continue to be involved in day-to-day operations, and pastry chef Olivier Thiry will remain part of the team through the end of the year, helping to ensure the spirit, knowledge, and character of Good Mansion carry on for years to come.
To mark the occasion, Good Mansion Wines will be hosting a week-long celebration. The anniversary celebrations will kick off with a ribbon-cutting with the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce on Friday, April 17. Throughout the week, the shop will celebrate its 20th anniversary with daily features, including 20% off a different highlighted product each day and birthday specials from the bakery.
The celebration will culminate on Friday, April 24 at 6 p.m. with a special wine tasting open house curated by Dominick Cerrone, marking both the anniversary and the next chapter of the business.
“Good Mansion Wines has always been built on good products and loyal customers. I’m proud of what we’ve built here, and I’m glad to see it continue in good hands,” said Cerrone. “For the tasting, I’ll be pouring a mix of longtime favorites and a few new wines that reflect the next chapter for the shop.” The ownership transition was completed on April 8, with no interruption to regular hours or service. Good Mansion Wines is open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Learn more at goodmansionwines.com.
