PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Hannah Kemp won the women’s division of the Carnegie Mellon Invitational and a trio of West Liberty men notched Top 20 finishes for Coach Justin Simpson‘s Hilltoppers at Satrurday’s Carnegie Mellon Cross Country Invitational in Schenley Park.
Kemp, a returning All-Region junior from Bethesda, Ohio, broke out on top and ran away from a 14-team field of more than 100 runners on the 6,000-meter course. She hit the tape all alone in a time of 18:45.9. Point Park’s Alyssa Campbell was a distant second in 19:06.7.
Depth paid off in a fourth-place finish for the West Liberty men over the rolling 8,000-meter course with Phil White, Jared Ullom and Michael Harriman cracking the Top 20 in the 13-team field.
White placed 14th overall in 27:10.0 with Ullom coming home 17th in 27:20.6 and Harriman claiming 19th place in a time of 27:27.9.
Duquesne, Carnegie Mellon and Indiana (Pa.) took the top three spots in the team standings with the Black and Gold and Glenville State rounding out the top five.
