It’s ball season X3 in the Rine house. My oldest is playing volleyball, then basketball for my middle kiddo, and flag football for my son. I have moments to grab something to eat before games, or I won’t be having dinner until 8:00. Then I get hangry and I yell… it’s not pretty.
If you’re like me, you just take a wrap, put stuff in it, possibly pop it in the microwave to warm it up, and then scarf it down. However, if you’re like me, when you have the opportunity at a sub shop to get your bread or your wrap toasted, you always say yes. The crunch is an undeniable perk.
Cue the air fryer.
“I need to use my air fryer more.” I’ve been saying that heavily over the last few months. I may have been a little ambitious when I bought this Ninja Foodi that seemingly does everything because I only cook a handful of things in there. I almost ordered a Reuben at lunch earlier this week and it’s been on my mind ever since. I quickly did a mental inventory and knew I had everything I needed on hand for a turkey Reuben wrap. Obviously, you can use any wrap ingredients you’d like. But I thought about these ingredients, warm with a CRUNCH and I was in. I assembled it and air fried in 8 minutes flat! It did not disappoint one bit.
What did slightly disappoint me were the sweet potato wedges. The texture was good ( I stabbed it a few times and put it in the microwave for 3 minutes to soften it, then cut the wedges and put them in the air fryer) but I failed on the seasoning. I used cinnamon, paprika and cracked pepper and then made a Cajun Mayo for dipping. It missed the mark. I’ll be reaching out to Chef Ryan with Public Market to pick his brain on the wedges he makes that are perfection.
You win some, you lose some. The crunchy wrap was absolutely a win. I’ll be trying many different versions for sure this ball season.
