The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) recognizes area individuals, organizations, businesses, and government agencies that routinely follow the United States Flag Code. The code outlines the customs and rules governing the display and use of the flag of the United States. The SAR established the Flag Commendation program in 1987 and encourages each chapter to recognize at least one entity each year.
The Howard Long Wellness Center was selected by the Fort Henry Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution for its highly visible display of the flag consistent with the United States Flag Code. The Howard Long Wellness Center has a long tradition of honoring the flag of the United States. Previous awardees include Stifel Fine Arts Center, Cabela’s, Ohio County Public Library, Hampton Inn of Wheeling, Wheeling Park, The Health Plan, the City of Benwood, Oglebay, Elmhurst, the City of Wheeling, and Perkins Restaurant and Bakery.
Jay Frey, President of the Fort Henry Chapter, commended the Howard Long Wellness Center for “Recognizing that the flag is more than a piece of cloth – it is a symbol of our nation’s history, ideals, sacrifices and aspirations”
The award will be presented during the Chapters’ meeting 10 AM, Saturday, June 13th at the Ohio County Public Library. The Flag Commendation Certificate will be presented to Mr. Kim Gruber, by Jay Frey, President, of the Sons of the American Revolution.
The Sons of the American Revolution is a male lineage society whose members trace their heritage to the War for Independence.
