Inaugural E-Sports Tourney at White Palace February 24

-

On Saturday, February 24, the first e-sports tournament will take place at Wheeling Park’s White Palace, thanks to a partnership with Bethany College eSports Team. Registration check-in will start at 10 a.m. and the tournament will kick off at 11 a.m.

The tournament will feature the Super Mario Smash Bros game on the Nintendo Switch. This competitive platform-style fighting game requires players to knock their opponent’s characters out of the electronic arena. The tournament follows a double-elimination format and is open to all middle school and high school students. Participation in the tournament is free.

The first 100 participants will receive a swag bag filled with goodies from Bethany College and Wheeling Park, including a coupon for a summer wristband at Wheeling Park. This event aims to generate interest among students for Bethany College, which recently established its own eSports team. The college hopes to eventually offer scholarships for the team.

“Bethany College eSports is proud to sponsor the first annual tournament hosted by the Wheeling Park Commission. We believe this is the start of a great partnership in the Ohio Valley that will turn into something spectacular!” said Bethany eSports Director, Xavier Thomas

During the tournament, two local video game shops will be present, offering merchandise for purchase. Additionally, Café 1925 will be open, serving delicious drinks to keep participants refreshed.
