K9 ‘Ruger’ Sniffs Out Drugs, Tech, Firearms in Traffic Stop Bust

-

The Belmont County Sheriff’s Office said the Criminal Interdiction Unit made a traffic stop that was part of an ongoing investigation for trafficking drugs into Ohio prisons.

Officials say K9 Ruger was deployed for a free air sniff around the vehicle, and after a probable cause, a search was made inside and out of the vehicle. During the search, law enforcement said they found about 115 grams of cocaine, a “drone” believed to be used to smuggle drugs into the prison, U.S. currency and two loaded firearms. Other contraband such as cell phones, tobacco, and tools were also located and found “illegal” within the confines of prison walls, according to officers.

Those arrested are Romina Harris, 30, of Steubenville, Ohio, Anthony Sims, 39, of Steubenville, Ohio, Tiron Law, 19, of Ohio, and Traymarr Moten, 20, of Steubenville, Ohio. The four were all charged with multiple felony counts of drug possession, drug trafficking, possession of criminal tools, and having weapons under disability. Officials say due to the number of drugs, the four are expected to be charged under the “Major Drug Offender” section of the Ohio Revised Code.

The Belmont County Sheriff’s Office said the Criminal Interdiction Unit (Ohio Organized Crime Investigation Commission) was assisted by the Saint Clairsville Police Dept., the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Jefferson County drug task force, and the Steubenville Police Department. Sheriff Zusack would like to give a special thanks to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Office of Investigative Services for their dedicated work. “Due to the teamwork by all agencies involved, large amounts of drugs and contraband were prevented from entering the prison system,” said Zusack
