Magnolia’s All-Time Winningest Coach Dave Cisar Retires after 48 Seasons

New Martinsville, W.Va. — After decades of commitment and dedication to Magnolia athletics, Dave Cisar has officially retired as head baseball coach at Magnolia High School.

Cisar’s coaching career began in 1970 as a head baseball coach for the Blue Eagles, he would then take the head football job and remained there all the way through to the end of the 1998 season where he stepped down as the head coach for Mark Batton to take over the program.

As the head football coach at MHS Cisar posted 158 victories in just 24 seasons adding three championship game appearances and four OVAC titles.

Cisar’s state championship dreams were accomplished in 2006 as he led the Blue Eagles to victory over Liberty Harrison defeating the Mountaineers 10-1 in the Class AA title game.

His last state tournament berth came in 2013 as he and the Blue Eagles took on Charleston Catholic in Class A Championship game, they fell to the Irish 9-8 in a thrilling contest.

Cisar led the Blue Eagles to the baseball championships three other times, obtained nine OVAC titles, and capped his career with 893 total victories.

In an interview, Cisar stated “I wanted to spend more time with my wife, children, grandchildren, and my dog Buster. I am not saying goodbye to Magnolia, I will be around watching the athletes and coaches compete.”

Dave Cisar would finish out his career with a total of 1,051 victories as head for the Blue Eagles football and baseball teams, making him the winningest coach in Magnolia history.
