Hannah Lynch, West Virginia University Music Industry student and Moundsville native, is featured on WVU School of Music’s new Country Roads compilation album, A Celebration of Country Roads, released on April 12.
Hannah is featured on the WVU Percussion Ensemble arrangement. She is also a part of the Mountain Mamas, a quartet of Music Industry majors.
“For the percussion piece, the creativity came from bringing written music to life- one of my peers wrote the piece himself, so we got to explore and create various musical instruments together,” said Lynch. “For the Mountain Mamas arrangement, we decided to use our natural abilities as a basic start and eventually crafted into what it is now. It was a fun experience to get to sing with other insanely talented women.”
The new 16-track compilation album includes distinctive renditions of the 1971 John Denver classic, “Take Me Home Country Roads” by both university faculty and students.
“Being born and raised in West Virginia, Country Roads has been exposed to me for my entire life and it means a lot to me,” said Lynch. “It’s one of those songs that I feel I can sing that totally represents my respect for the land and the beauty it holds.”
The album is produced by Mon Hills Music Group, West Virginia University’s student-run record label and professional component of the WVU Music Industry Program. Students and faculty involved have spent the last 18 months recording and producing the tracks.
A Celebration of Country Roads can be heard on all major streaming platforms starting April 12.
