Marshall County Assessor Eric Buzzard pleaded guilty on Wednesday to embezzlement and conspiracy charges.

As in the past when filling a vacant elected position, the Commission will advertise for Letters of Interest from residents of Marshall County who meet the requirements. Eligibility requirements include:

  1. Must be a resident of Marshall County.
  2. Must be a legally qualified, registered voter in WV.
  3. Must be a registered Republican prior to November 4, 2024 (one year before vacancy) and continuously until the appointment.

The ad will run in the Moundsville Weekly Echo and The Wheeling News Register/Intelligencer.

The Marshall County Commission would like to take this time to thank the WV Auditor’s Office, WV State Police, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and Special Prosecutor Shawn Turak for their utmost professionalism, attention to detail and commitment to serving our community.

Local government is audited on an annual basis.  Government auditors look for discrepancies in financial records, non-compliance with code, potential fraud, etc.  This exact process is what led to the realization of Mr. Buzzards actions and resulting conviction.

The Marshall County Commission looks forward to filling the open Assessor’s position and putting this issue behind us.
