Postponing was the proper decision to make.
Yes, it takes it away from the comfort of a weekend afternoon. Yes, it robs Pittsburgh of the “anything can happen” advantage. And yes, many members of Steeler Nation will miss the first half because of their employment.
But in the name of safety for folks in Buffalo and the surrounding areas, the Wild Card game between the Bills and Steelers will NOT be broadcast at 1 p.m. on CBS. Instead, CBS will keep the game but kickoff is not until 4:30 p.m. tomorrow. By now, though, you likely already know that, and initially, you probably questioned the toughness of Buffalo’s players and their fans without considering too many of the facts.
- New York Governor Kathy Hochul had declared a “state of emergency” even before the game was postponed a day.
- During the next 48 hours, the city of Buffalo will be under a winter storm warning, according to the National Weather Service, and possibly could receive 10 to 20 more inches of snow.
- As of this morning, Buffalo residents have seen eight inches of snow fall in the past 24 hours.
- At 10 a.m. this morning, it was 21 degrees with heavy snow and a “feels like” of 3 degrees.
- Human skin can begin to suffer frost bite damage in temperatures below 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
There are other body parts to consider, too, but hopefully you get the point by now. If not, go shovel your own walk and I bet that gets ya on board because, as I told my wife this morning, ‘Baby, it’s dangerous outside.’”
The big question now is, will these two teams even play Monday? Temperatures are expected to remain frigid, more snow is expected to fall, and there’s no place to hide on the field or in the stands at Buffalo’s Highmark Stadium.
