Every so often, and more so recently, I grab an image of something and simply post, “This.” to my Facebook timeline.
I offer those social media updates to remind you – and myself – about the community in which we live here in the Upper Ohio Valley, and the images could come from anywhere from Wetzel to Jefferson counties. As someone who has lived in other cities, I can tell you we are different here, and anyone who has resided in another city in a different state can attest the same.
Now that doesn’t mean crime and cruelty doesn’t take place here because sadly, those mugshot sites are full of alleged lawbreakers on a daily basis, but we also prove just as often that the kind outnumbers the heartless and inhumane and that if you need help, friends and strangers both will stand up to assist.
That’s been the case the past three weeks in Valley Grove and Triadelphia in Ohio County, and the same will take place the next time it’s needed. That’s who we are.
Unfortunately, though, we have political game players amongst us, and now that they think the sting of catastrophe has numbed, they are playing the blame game on both sides of the aisle.
And that’s ridiculous.
Taking care of people should not be a political issue, and neither should placing Americans at the front of the line when it comes to spending American tax dollars. Our country’s Republicans and Democrats have been embroiled in a battle for political party power for decades instead of working for “We The People” by using old fashioned compromise, and the “only right way is my way” mentality we’ve seen come from the two groups is placing our country’s future in danger.
Since I know we’re quite capable of creating the reasons for me to post my “This” updates from time to time, I’m quite confident we’re capable of working together instead of spreading misinformation to misguide and divide.
Let’s do THAT instead.
