West Liberty University enjoyed a traditional gallery opening this week as the Nutting Gallery welcomed guests to view the work of Rabecca Signoriello.

The exhibition is entitled: “This is Work” and it will remain on view through April 14. This is the first public display of art since COVID-19 forced the closure of campus last spring.

“With the world getting back to normal, we were pleased to get back to in-person gallery openings and enjoyed a reception with the artist this past Wednesday evening. Of course, masks were still necessary but it was great to be back in business so to speak,” said Brian Fencl, WLU’s professor of Art and gallery director.

Born and raised in Northwestern Pennsylvania, Signoriello attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where she obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2004. Upon graduation she started Signoriello Studios, specializing in murals, while retaining her job with a respected paving company as a laborer.

After several years of painting, she was accepted to The New York Academy of Art where she continued her education. During this time, she received several merit awards, including the Walter Erlebacher Award; in addition to receiving an Artist Residency at Leipzig International Arts Programme in Germany. She earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in 2011 while studying under several noted contemporary painters including: Vincent Desiderio, Steven Assael, Margaret Bowland and Jenny Saville.

Her works are in private collections in New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, Germany and Monte Carlo, Monaco.

The “Grit” series is also included in the exhibit. It was on display for most of 2019 at the Pittsburgh International Airport.

Face masks are required in the gallery and social distancing is observed. Located in WLU’s Fine Arts Building, the regular hours of the Nutting Gallery are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Fridays, weekends and other times are by arrangement only.

The Nutting Gallery is dedicated to educating, enriching, and engaging students and the public through art exhibitions of the highest quality. Fulfilling this mission through eight exhibitions during the academic year, the exhibition schedule includes five exhibitions by visiting artists, two Senior Exhibitions, and the Annual Art Faculty Exhibition.
