As the replay of the tragic events of 9/11/01 creep back into the minds of Americans everywhere, the Ohio County Virtual Lions Club has erected a display of 75 American Flags to honor heroes in front of the Mansion Museum in Oglebay Park.

The flags have been sponsored by the community and each recognize a different hero. Some are a sign of respect to fallen military. Others shed light onto the hard work and bravery shown by individuals working in healthcare. Each flag has a unique way of paying respect for those individuals who have given more to our families, communities, and country.

“The Flags for Heroes program is a beautiful way to honor individuals for their service to our country, community, and family. This solemn display is the perfect way to reflect on the anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11/01. We hope that everyone takes a drive to Oglebay and checks out the display,” explained Ohio County Virtual Lions Club Secretary Julie Davis.

Through the Weekend

The 75 flags on display will be waving through the weekend, with a Sunday afternoon tear down. At that time, each flag will be folded and properly stored until the next display – Veterans Day in November.

“We are so pleased to have been able to partner with Oglebay on this project. While many other Lions Clubs have a small area where they serve, the Ohio County Virtual Lions Club serves all of Ohio County. When we chose the location at the beginning stages of the project, Oglebay was the top choice. We couldn’t have created this display without their help,” shared Ohio County Virtual Lions President Chris Doty.

A few flags are still without sponsors. If interested in sponsoring a flag, visit OhioCountyVirtualLions.Club and click on the Flags for Heroes.
