WHEELING, W.Va. — Oglebay Park Resort’s Labor Day Weekend celebration returns September 4–7, featuring Fort Henry Days, the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra’s Music Under the Stars and a fireworks finale over Schenk Lake, alongside a full weekend of family activities and entertainment throughout the park.
The holiday weekend will also bring a close to Oglebay’s summer-long celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, connecting the history and traditions of the Ohio Valley with opportunities for families and the community to gather and celebrate together.
“Labor Day Weekend brings together so much of what makes Oglebay special — our history, our traditions and the opportunity to gather as a community,” said Bob Peckenpaugh, President and CEO of the Wheeling Park Commission. “As we close out a memorable summer celebrating America 250 across the park, we’re excited to welcome families and friends for a weekend that celebrates these traditions while creating new memories for generations to come.”
On Saturday and Sunday, Fort Henry Days will bring the history of the Ohio Valley to life with living-history demonstrations, period encampments and reenactments of the Battle for Fort Henry. The annual tradition shares the stories of the region’s Revolutionary War era and offers guests an opportunity to experience an important chapter of local history firsthand.
Sunday evening, guests are invited to gather at the Oglebay Amphitheater for Music Under the Stars, featuring the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Music Director John Devlin. The performance concludes this summer’s Sunday Funday Concert Series, presented by the Elizabeth Stifel Kline Foundation and Expand Energy. The celebration continues with Oglebay’s Fireworks Extravaganza over Schenk Lake, bringing the evening and the park’s America 250 summer celebration to a memorable close.
Additional Labor Day Weekend happenings include live entertainment and family-friendly activities throughout the park, including the Annual Woodcarvers Show, Americana Skydiving Performance, Inflatable Fun Zone, Foam Party and End of Summer Pool Party.
