Oglebay’s Wilson Lodge will continue to welcome guests while undergoing extensive renovations approved by the Wheeling Park Commission.
Upon arrival, guests will soon enjoy a redesigned port cochere that provides clear direction and protection from bad weather. They will have seamless access to the newly renovated lobby and gift shop through a curbless entrance and the dining spaces will undergo a major transformation, as well as updates to Hickman Lounge.
During the renovation period, guests and patrons seeking lodging, dining and spa services can access the temporary main lobby at the Lakeside entrance. Simply follow the signage as you arrive at Wilson Lodge and park near the temporary entrance. Come enjoy the elegant transformation of Hickman Lounge as it will now serve as the Bar & Grill for the lodge offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner options (Glassworks Grill and the Ihlenfeld Dining Room have temporarily closed).
According to Wheeling Park Commission President & CEO, Bob Peckenpaugh, “These renovations will enhance the level of comfort, ambiance, and service that we provide our guests. We are committed to providing a new experience for our guests while also honoring Oglebay’s rich history.”
The renovation costs are partially covered by a grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA). The Oglebay Foundation will also play a crucial role in securing the remaining funds through its “Forever Yours: The Campaign for An Enduring Oglebay.” This campaign aims to gather philanthropic support for significant renovations across Oglebay.
“The ongoing work will enhance all areas of the parks, including the construction at Wilson Lodge and Wheeling Park,” stated Eriks Janelsins, Oglebay Foundation President & CEO. “These updates align with our goal of raising 100,000 gifts in celebration of Oglebay’s centenary in 2028.”
Peckenpaugh expressed gratitude towards the Wheeling Park Commission, Economic Development Administration, and the Oglebay Foundation and its donors, stating that their support and commitment to the park will create an exceptional experience for everyone.”
The renovation project commenced in January and is expected to conclude by late spring 2024. Wilson Lodge offers 250 rooms, suites, and chalets, along with conference facilities, dining venues, a full-service spa, a 24-hour fitness center, retail outlets and more.
