Wing lovers rejoice, at least for a few more weeks.

With football season barreling down on the country, the price, and demand, of chicken wings is sure to increase yet again once fall and the NFL kick into full swing.

But until then, wing prices, which during the last year or so have skyrocketed because of the pandemic and supply issues, are finally coming down.

Cheaper wings you say? Where?

What started as a weekend special recently has grown into a full blown daily special, at least until football season, or until prices increase.

That special? Wings for 60 cents apiece. Yes, you heard that right. Sixty cents. For anyone struggling with the math, that’s 10 wings for $6, 20 for $12 and so on.

“We’ve had these prices for about a week and have gotten a really great response,” said co-owner Erika Donaghy of the 2203 Ohio Street location in Moundsville.

“Usually around football season, the prices will go back and we can’t help that. But we’re going to try to keep the prices as long as possible.”

The only catch? The wings must be ordered as dine-in and enjoyed inside P.J.’s. That’s more than a fair trade to enjoy tasty wings at a price wing lovers haven’t seen locally since pre-pandemic.

The wings come in multiple flavors, including plain, hot, Thai chili, buffalo mild, Carolina gold, chipotle lime, garlic Parmesan and the Exorcist wings.

This writer stripped his way through an order of 10 hot Thai chili wings and will personally attest to the quality and great test. He also intends to return for the Exorcist wings which, according to fellow owner Rob Donaghy, is a slow build into the extreme hit.

“It’s not instant. It doesn’t hit you all at once,” he said.

Football Season and Specials

While wing prices will likely increase during football, the current special will hold, at minimum, through the end of August. But as all good things eventually come to an end, P.J.’s is looking to offset that by offering bucket of beers and other drink specials

Those prices are still being ironed out, but if they match the daily specials at P.J.’s, you can bet football fans stopping by for beer and wings, or any other number of tasty treats off the menu, won’t be disappointed.

Mondays, kids 12-and-under receive a free meal with each adult entree purchased. For a family looking to eat and out save a few bucks, that’s an easy way to save some cash.

There’s Two for Tuesday when you can buy one large pizza and get the second half off, while Wednesdays are for Wedgies, one of P.J.’s signature sandwiches–$1.50 off for hump day.

Thursdays is a buy one get one free on a choice of pasta meals, while Fridays are great for date night as the purchase of two entrees results in a free appetizer. Saturday’s is a $1 off fish sandwiches and Sundays you can buy two large, 1-topping pizzas for $22.99.

Circling back to football, Erika Donaghy noted that when a big game is playing later in the day, the restaurant will stay open to accommodate fans looking to enjoy their meals and beer while watching.

“If the game is going on, we’ll stay open,” Donaghy said. “Any time we have people here, even when there are softball games across the street (at East End), if they are running late, we’ll stay open.”

Donaghy noted the scoreboard being installed across the street that day at the softball fields and is looking forward to the increase usage and potential plethora of new and hungry customers ready to walk across the street and sample P.J.’s menu.

Speaking of the menu, a great way to see what’s available, and to order ahead, is by downloading the Original P.J.’s app, available both in the App Store and on Google Play for Android Users.

There you can place an order for either pick-up or delivery. And P.J.’s does have a fairly extensive delivery range, going south to the Mitchell Plant on the West Virginia side and north up to McMechen. On the Ohio Side, P.J.’s will even deliver down to Powhatan Point.
