A very active Wheeling Park High School graduate is following her dreams by attending the U.S. Naval Academy.

Wheeling Park Class of 2020 member Daisy Reasbeck departed July 1 for Annapolis, Md. The standout Patriot student athlete said she was excited to be nominated to the Naval Academy by Senator Capito, Senator Manchin and Congressman McKinley. She said she chose the academy after a lot of research and watching the experiences others who have graduated from the historic military institution. Reasbeck said she has lofty goals as a Midshipman.

“I’m drawn to becoming a pilot,” she said. “That may change. It could be subs (submarines) tomorrow, but that is OK. There are so many options, and I look forward to exploring as many as possible.

“My interest in the academies started in sixth grade, ironically by a West Point graduate” Reasbeck added. “I had friends who had gone, and I was really drawn to their experiences. I attended the (Naval Academy) Summer Seminar last year, and that really sold me. I came home and started working on applications and nominations.  I fell in love with the lifestyle as they constantly push you to be better in all aspects of life.”

A Standout

Reasbeck was a standout student at Wheeling Park High School. She was also an excellent athlete as a two-year captain on Patriot girls soccer team and member of the girls basketball team. Reasbeck was also debate division leader of the state champion Wheeling Park High School Speech and Debate Team.

Wheeling Park science teacher Courtney Redilla and math teacher Sue Hvizdos were Reasbeck’s favorite teachers. She said she has wonderful memories from her four years as a Wheeling Park Patriot.

“I think the best is that I got to make every part of my high school education my own,” Reasbeck said. “With soccer, basketball and debate, I never sat still. It was awesome for me. Wheeling Park has challenging AP courses, and of course debate. I loved the challenges that were presented to me in and out of the classroom and what I learned from those challenges.”

Reasbeck is the daughter of John and Libby Reasbeck. She has two siblings – Ellie and Max. She said she is thankful for those who made her dreams of attending the U.S. Naval Academy come true.

“I’d like to thank everyone for the amount of support they have given me, from recommendations to congratulations to beeps & waves while running to stay in shape during quarantine; it all means something to me” Reasbeck said. “I don’t get this opportunity without the support from friends, family, coaches, and teachers who have helped shape me into who I am.”
