‘Party on the Plaza’ Proceeds Fund $100,000 Donation to WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Center

The Circus Saints and Sinners recently announced a $100,000 pledge to the WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Robert Sonneborn Family Pediatric Outpatient Center at Wheeling Hospital. The funds will come from the Party on the Plaza music festival held each summer in downtown Wheeling.

“We are very pleased to continue to support the great work of WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s,” Party on the Plaza founder and Chairman Paul Smith said. “Having these vital services right here at home will minimize long trips to Morgantown, making a huge difference in the quality of life of area children and families.”

The 17,000-square-foot outpatient center broke ground last August and will bring expanded, state-of-the-art pediatric services to families throughout the Northern Panhandle and Ohio Valley.

“We’re very grateful to supporters like the Circus Saints and Sinners,” said Jessica Moore, Associate Vice President of Foundations and Community Relations for the WVU Medicine Northern Region. “They have been making a difference locally for nearly 100 years; it’s charitable groups like this that help make our community such a special place.”

Once fully operational, the state-of-the-art facility will offer 37 exam rooms, on-site pediatric labs, specialized imaging, and an after-hours clinic.

“This new center brings world-class, specialized care for kids in a family-centered environment,” said Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration Vice President Bob Contraguerro, Jr. “We are very proud to be the title sponsor of the Party on the Plaza and help the Saints and Sinners support such a worthy cause.”

Now in its sixth year, and billed as “The Summer’s Hottest Party,” the Party on the Plaza has fast become one of the Wheeling area’s most popular fundraising events, featuring food trucks, beer and wine, and all-day live music from the Panhandle Stage. This year’s event is slated for July 11th with an official announcement of the musical lineup anticipated in the coming days.

In recognition of the donation, a circus-themed mural branded with the Circus Saints and Sinners logo will be featured near the entrance to the well-visit clinic, where most of the pediatric appointments take place. This is the second major gift the club has given Children’s following a $150,000 donation toward the “Grow Children’s” capital campaign in 2021 that went toward the recently constructed WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital on the campus of the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
