My lunchtime craving the other day sent a signal to my brain that it was time for pizza. To be fair, when doesn’t it? Still, in these recent months I’ve found myself eating pizza less and less; not that my waist is any smaller to show for it.

That being said, on this day, I was craving triangular slices of pepperoni and cheese goodness. Triangular slices? In the Valley? I know, but despite being from the valley, I don’t ALWAYS want square pizza. Usually, but not always.

But on this weekday afternoon, it wasn’t just any triangle slice that I had a hankering for, no, it was those giant slices of deliciousness found at Fabio’s Pizza inside the Ohio Valley Mall.

I’ve been alive for a few decades, and I can’t remember ever walking into the mall’s main entrance, smelling the smells wafting from inside Fabio’s and thinking to myself ‘nah, not in the mood.’ The smell is that good. The taste? Infinitely better.

Plus, given my daughter is a pickier eater than I am, the fact her ears perk up at the mere mention of Fabio’s is a good sign. It didn’t take much convincing in her mind on this afternoon.

So off we went to Fabio’s spot in the mall. Since the closure of Home Pizza, Fabio’s is now tied atop my favorite pizza list, so I try to periodically frequent the establishment.

Business has been good at Fabio’s during the pandemic, but the staff and owner are anxious for things to return to completely normal once again.

The Food

I wound up getting a square slice, along with a triangle slice. For triangle, there is none better than a slice of the meat pie. More than just the delectable pepperoni, the meat pie packs a load of flavor with multiple types of meat and cheeses inside.

In addition, Fabio’s provides a tasty dipping sauce for the meat pie. It certainly adds to the flavor, not that it needed any assistance.

The other slice was a thick crust slice of sausage and cheese. Pepperoni is good, but it’s not a necessity. Maybe it’s the German in me that appreciates the sausage, but it’s a nice combination. The slice of meat pie and sausage and cheese go well together.

My daughter got her usual, one thin crust and one thick crust pepperoni and cheese, one triangular (thin crust) and one thick (square). For a kid that normally takes FOREVER to eat, she gets through both slices quickly with little effort.

That, if nothing else, should signifying to the uninitiated just how incredible the food at Fabio’s is. And the place has far more than just pizza.

There are a number of Italian-style dishes and items to be had, none of which I’ll likely ever eat because the pizza is so good.

Every time I think I want to try the pasta, or a Stromboli, or even a hoagie, I keep coming back to the pizza.

You should too. It’s money well spent. Enjoy.
