We were looking for a good food option the other night, but had zero desire to sit down at a restaurant and enjoy it. So we skimmed looking for something with good food, relatively close by, with the ability to offer a pick-up option so we could swing through, grab the food, and head back to the house.
Living in St. Clairsville and wanting to try something new, I remembered I’d heard good things about the Barton Trap.
I’ve never been to the Trap, but I’ve seen it multiple times, driving to and from Barton whilst doing Door Dash. I’d always wondered about it, but unless working, I’m seldom in that part of town.
The other night, that changed, as we hopped on the Trap’s Facebook page and scanned the menu to see what looked appetizing.
A LOT looked appetizing.
This isn’t the first time we’ve hit up what’s basically a bar with an active kitchen for dinner–see J.P.’s Saloon. Once again, we weren’t disappointed. Not in the slightest.
Not only was the food incredible and comforting, but the amount of food we received was incredible when considering the overall price we paid. It was quite a haul, the bounty of food, not the drive. But that drive? Well worth the trip.
And now …
The Food
I was in the mood for a burger as I’d have previous great luck ordering bar burgers. I scanned the menu and quickly came across the Hangover Burger. Two meaty burger patties, a fried egg, bacon, hashbrown, and cheese. That’s a whole lot of carbs, but it packs a whole lot of flavor.
This burger needed no other seasoning or sauces. The taste was amazing–so amazing that it slid into my Top 3 burgers in the valley, right at No. 3.
Another huge bonus in the Barton Trap’s corner is they offer beer battered fries. It seems so many restaurants, both local and fast food, are opting for the natural-cut fries. I have to be in the mood for those, but beer battered, those always hit the spot. I got an order of beer battered fries covered in gravy. Yes, it was as tasty as it sounds.
The GF opted to get the appetizer sampler, three for $10. She decided to get fried pickle chips, beer battered fries, and mozzarella sticks. She raved about all three, especially the fries. She too prefers the beer battered and these were fried to perfection.
My daughter, who’s normally incredibly picky about her burgers, decided to do the “build a burger” option. She kept it simple with cheese and bacon, but she couldn’t stop talking about how juicy and delicious the burger tasted. High praise from her, especially considering how picky she is.
She also enjoyed her order of mac ‘n’ cheese bites.
When we return, and we will, I’ve seen a few wing flavors I’d like to try. I know someone who tasted my hangover burger and wants one of her own.
I’ve never been one to turn my nose up at food just because it’s cooked at a bar, but I know some people are reluctant to pull the trigger. How good could it really be, right?
Well, take it from my expanding stomach and the satisfied smile on my face. It is really good.
Sounds like the extra notch on the
belt buckle might be worth it.
