Roger Getz Joins WLU as Dean of Elbin Library and Learning Resources

West Liberty University added a new dean to its faculty ranks this year, selecting its inaugural Dean of University Library and Learning Resources.

Roger Getz began this role at WLU’s Elbin Library just a few weeks ago.

“West Liberty University looks forward to the presence of a library dean who offers many advantages for our faculty and will strengthen our student experience. I welcome Roger to campus,” said Dr. Cathy Monteroso, interim WLU President.

“I’m very excited to be a part of WLU. I know I’ll enjoy working with the library staff as we strive to make a more user-friendly experience for our faculty, staff and students,” Getz said.

Stating further that he likes a challenge and embraces teamwork, Getz’s attitude is helpful and friendly to the public.

Getz joins the university from Doane University, located in Crete, Nebraska, where he served as library director for just over a year. Prior to that he was with the University of Maine system, serving at the Presque Isle campus for more than six years.

He earned his Master of Library Science degree at Pennsylvania’s Clarion University and was born in Fredericksburg, Pa.

Getz stated that he loves to travel and is finding Wheeling welcoming.

Elbin Library is named after one of the university’s longest-serving presidents, serving from 1935 – 1970, Paul N. Elbin. It houses the Alumni Wall of Honor as well as the Nell M. Krise Rare Book Room, both located on the second floor of the library.

Hundreds of students use the library on a daily basis and make use of its technology, research and reference tools. Tech rooms and individual study rooms are available and are especially popular with commuter students.

The library also is home to WLU’s campus archives and the Henry Lash Sheet Music Collection. With more than 200,000 volumes, e-books, e-journals, as well as many other resources, the Elbin Library supports the curriculum of West Liberty University.
