The president of Roxby Development filed for Chapter 11 federal bankruptcy protection late Monday evening, May 1, with the assistance of Pittsburgh attorney Salene Kraemer.
The filing was in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of West Virginia. The McLure Hotel in downtown Wheeling was scheduled to go up for auction this morning but after the bankruptcy was filed the auction was delayed. The filing included The McLure House Hotel, Roxby Labs, and The McClure House a Ramada by Wyndham.
A Chapter 11 filing allows a company to reorganize finances and possibly resurface from the process.
Roxby Labs operated out of the East Building on the OVMC campus for more than a year and conducted Covid screenings and reported results to tested residents and local health departments and to the state of West Virginia.
Roxby Development purchased the McLure House in late June 2021 for $6.245 through public auction. Morris told the Wheeling newspapers last month he still owed as much as $5.3 million. The May 1st filing indicated Roxby owed a plethora of vendors and individuals, including utility companies, the City of Wheeling, and “various employees.”
The filing was 13 pages in length and indicated there are between 50 and 99 creditors involved and between $10-$50 million in liabilities.
