We recently had the “Bernie Sanders Show” in town. I think it’s officially called the “Fight Oligarchy” tour, but it’s a very thinly veiled hatefest where attendees who can’t spell Oligarchy get to listen to a crusty old socialist multi-millionaire express hate and contempt for those who have succeeded.
I was surprised at the number of people they had in the hall. What was more remarkable was the 20 busses parked throughout town to bring attendees in from as far away as Columbus, Ohio, many of whom freely admitted that this was not their first event. Those faithful to socialism will tell you that it’s not cheating, it’s just that Sanders plays better to a full hall.
Right.
Who would have thought that Bernie Sanders – a man who professes to hate coal, steel, natural gas and all basic industry – actually has adherents to his abhorrent “Democratic Socialism” in West Virginia.
Because I’m a student of politics, I grabbed a trash can (in case I wretched) and watched the live coverage of the event – which was presented “ad free”, mostly because there is not a local businessman who would advertise. There weren’t any customers there to advertise to, and I would be willing to bet that few in attendance have actually worked a 40 hour week. Ever.
While the vitriol and hate were cranked up to an “11”, I realized that when the Left refers to “the working man,” they are actually referring to welfare recipients. How they morph “working man” into welfare is beyond explanation, but it’s critical to understand why the Left is sabotaging the legislative process nationally.
A rally of Democrats from the year 2000 would have a large contingent of men and women from organized labor – people who were not strangers to work, and often had the callouses to prove it. They were my neighbors, my friends, and our children’s classmates’ parents and grandparents. We had a huge level of common ground. We wanted to do a little better for our clan, and we wanted our children and grandchildren to get ahead.
They are still my neighbors and friends. It’s just now they vote for people who share their values (Republicans), and not the drivel the Democrats are peddling.
What I heard listening to the Sanders rally was just the opposite of what people believe.
It was non-stop diatribe about the only way “the working man” was going to get ahead was by taking it from the “rich”.
Far too many references to “gender identity” and “migrants” (who are often just shopping for the country with the best welfare). It wasn’t about building something better, but instead it was about how the most successful among us need to be punished, and that if you followed him, they would be punished.
The shift here is equally subtle and profound. Sanders is no longer talking to working people. He’s talking to welfare recipients, and right now there are enough of them to sway an election and turn swaths of this great country of ours into a socialist hell hole the likes of Venezuela or Cuba.
The only completely factual statement Sanders made was that the Democrats lost elections throughout this state. They lost them by attacking the industries that provided the livelihood for so many who would clock a solid 40-hour week working, and another 40 hours in service to their children and community – which, of course, left just enough time for church on Sunday and a proper night sleep every day.
If you look at the causes the Democrats have rallied behind, the majority of West Virginians view them with extreme distaste, and the results in the ballot box show it.
Today, there are fewer Democrats in West Virginia politics than there were Republicans at the height of control of the state by the Democratic Machine. This isn’t going to change until the Democrats refute the extreme Left Wing of their party, and I’m not holding my breath expecting that to happen anytime soon.
The reason is simple, and was driven home by the Sanders event.
The Democrats are diametrically opposed to common sense and the set of constructs that productive members of society hold dear, and I’ve stated to believe that includes God and Country. Bernie Sanders is diametrically opposed to what you believe.
He’s hopelessly out of touch with working men and women, and as such, has lost their support. He mocks those who are successful while enjoying three homes and expensive automobiles, all paid for directly or indirectly by your tax dollars.
Now he’s out peddling hate, which has a very narrow audience.
But that’s Bernie Sanders’ philosophy of “Democratic Socialism,” and more than a majority of us reject the extreme hatred bearing his initials.
