Sports on in West Virginia… For Now

CHARLESTON W.Va. – With COVID-19 on the rise in the mountain state yet again officials are looking towards a possible return for sports in the fall.

Executive Director of the WVSSAC, Bernie Dolan, announced Friday afternoon that high school sports could return in the fall but the look could be different.

Mandatory high school sports fall sports practices are now set to begin August 17th, 2020.

High school football in West Virginia was originally set to begin on August 24th, however, there is no word as to what will happen to the Week 1 games. There are currently 17 West Virginia teams who are set to take on out of state opponents in Week 1.

The first competition dates for each sport will be the following:

Golf (August 24th)

Soccer (September 2nd)

Volleyball (September 2nd)

Cross Country (September 2nd)

Cheer (September 2nd)

Football (September 3rd)
