Steenrod Elementary School is working with its Partners in Education to ensure a safe, healthy and happy holiday season for its students and community.

Steenrod Principal Michelle Dietrich said the school has several holiday contribution drives underway to help those in need. On Friday, the school made a large contribution to the Youth Services System Winter Freeze Shelter. Steenrod staff members and families collected coats, clothes and personnel hygiene products such as ChapStick, toothpaste, tooth brushes, combs, lotion, hand sanitizer and other items to be distributed by YSS.

According to Dietrich, the support of the J.B. Chambers Memorial Foundation allowed Steenrod to purchase bath towels and personal hygiene items for a number of the school’s students who may be in need of help over the holidays.

Dietrich said Steenrod benefits from strong support from its partners in education. She said the school and its staff members are actively involved in donation efforts with The First Baptist Church, the J.B. Chambers Memorial Foundation and the Junior League of Wheeling.

“It’s about community,” Dietrich said. “These are important partners that reach out to us every year. They want to help as many of our students as they can, and Steenrod wants to do what we can for as many people possible. These are wonderful community partnerships.”
