TODAY AT 10:45 a.m.: WV SOS Kris Warner Presenting Jennings Randolph Award for Civic Engagement at Cameron High School

WV Secretary of State Kris Warner will visit Cameron High School in Marshall County on Thursday, September 17, to present the school with the prestigious Jennings Randolph Award for Civic Engagement.

The Award is presented to any public or private high school in West Virginia that registers at least 85% of its eligible seniors to vote.

Students who graduated from Cameron High School in May 2026 earned the Gold Award by achieving a 100% voter registration rate among eligible seniors.

Immediately following today’s award presentation, Cameron High School will host a voter registration drive in recognition of National Voter Registration Month. Marshall County Clerk Connie Howard will be at the school to assist eligible juniors and seniors with registering to vote. Students will begin working toward earning the Jennings Randolph Award again during the 2026-27 school year.

During the 2025-26 school year, 26 high schools in West Virginia earned the award.

The Jennings Randolph Award honors the late U.S. Senator Jennings Randolph who represented West Virginia in the United States Congress for more than 50 years. Senator Randolph spent nearly three decades advocating for passage of the 26th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which lowered the voting age from 21 to 18. The amendment was ratified in 1971.
