The trial for the truck driver who allegedly shot another truck driver in the face along Interstate 470 in January 2024 will begin this morning before Belmont County Common Pleas Court Judge Chris Berhalter.
Malcolm Williams, 32, was charged with attempted murder with a firearm specification, two counts of felonious assault with firearm specifications, and one count of discharging a weapon in a prohibited area also with a firearm specification. Judge Berhalter set Williams’ bond at $250,000.
According to Prosecutor Kevin Flanagan, proceedings are scheduled to begin today at 8:30 a.m. Flanagan believes the trial will last the rest of the week.
The shooting victim, Michael Brundage of Ellenboro, West Virginia, was shot in the jaw and cheek and has been recovering since. According to the incident report, Brundage was pulled to the side of the freeway and standing outside his truck when, allegedly, Williams pulled over his semi tracker trailer, approached him and shot him in the face.
The shooting occurred near Mile Marker 3 westbound, and the prosecutor told media members at that time the attack appeared random.
According to the press release distributed April 2, 2024, by the U.S. Marshals Service, the agency’s “Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) adopted the case, and investigators discovered Williams was in the State of Michigan. This investigation led the Michigan State Police and the U.S. Marshal Task Force to the 600 Block of 7th Street, Cadillac, Michigan, where Williams was taken into custody without incident …”
