Class A
Cameron (2-3) at Tyler Consolidated (2-3)
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Last Week: Cameron lost to Pendleton County at John Marshall this past Saturday, 34-20. Tyler Consolidated suffered its third loss of the season to No. 6 Buffalo (2-0), 38-8.
Why it’s important: Both of these programs are looking to even their records and to possibly punch their ticket to the unknown postseason this year. The Silver Knights currently sit at #25 in Class A while the Dragons sit at #26.
Whom to watch for Cameron: Freshman Quarterback Colson Wichterman was accountable for passing all three touchdowns in the Dragons game against Pendleton County. Wichterman was the Dragons’ leading rusher last Saturday with only 43 yards.
Whom to watch for Tyler Consolidated: Senior Quarterback Trenton Huffman completed 6 of 18 passes for 57 yards for the Silver Knights while Senior David Throckmorton finished the contest with 20 yards on seven carries.
CLASS AA
Wheeling Central (2-3) at Weir (1-4)
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Last Week: Weir edged Martins Ferry in double overtime, 47-46. Ohio powerhouse Fort Frye shut out Wheeling Central, 33-0.
Why it’s important: Already with four losses the Red Riders are trying to catch up with other opponents in the Class AA playing field. The Maroon Knights however need to capture wins to even qualify for the Class A playoff bracket in just a few weeks. The three-time defending champions currently stand at #24 in Class A.
Whom to watch for Weir: Anthony DiMatteis is a threat on offense. As the starting Senior Quarterback, he led the Red Riders to a needed key win. Could this motivate a turnaround for the Red Riders this upcoming week when they host the defending champs?
Whom to watch for Wheeling Central: Jordan Waterhouse led the way for the Maroon Knights with 82 yards on only three receptions. Michael Toepfer also played a huge role last week; he was 7-14 on passing for a total of 121 yards.
CLASS AAA
Morgantown (0-1) at No. 8 Wheeling Park (4-1)
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Last Week: Wheeling Park edged Oak Glen, 28-14. Morgantown opened its season last Friday to a highly ranked Musselman team, losing by the final 42-9.
Why it’s important: The Mohigans only have a few more weeks until the Class AAA playoffs, Morgantown needs any win they can get. Meanwhile the Patriots are sitting as a No. 8 seed currently and are seeking another win to possibly move up in the rankings.
Whom to watch for Morgantown: Fullback Deondre Crudup showed promising results from the Mohigans season opener last week, scoring the team’s only touchdown and finishing Friday game with 93 yards on only 12 carries.
Whom to watch for Wheeling Park: Stevie Mitchell led the way for the Patriots’ victory over the Class AA Oak Glen Bears (3-1). Mitchell plowed his way to 155 yards on 26 carries. Another threat would be Beau Heller, who threw for 152 yards on 12 of 18 passing.
