West Liberty University Invites High School Dancers to Compete for $500 Prize

-

If you dance and you’re a high school junior or senior, you may want to join West Liberty University students in a new dance competition this spring.

“We are hosting a dance competition in the style of the popular TV show, ‘So You think You Can Dance,’ and we encourage any junior or senior high school student to complete our online registration to take part in the event now,” said WLU Professor Michael Aulick, who serves as the theater director on campus.

The competition is open to all WLU students along with all high school juniors and seniors in the state of West Virginia and the surrounding counties of what is known as the metro region of West Liberty (please see westliberty.edu/admissions/costs/metro).

Registrations will be accepted only until March 17 and the competition (open to the public) will take place on Wednesday, March 29 in Kelly Theater. The winners of the competition will be selected by a professional panel of judges.

COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS
Dancers will perform a prepared solo (no more than three minutes long) in the style of their choice, as well as take part in the opening number taught on the day of the event by Jill Warren, WLU dance instructor.

Registration will close on Friday, March 17, and all music files must be submitted by that time as well (uploaded to the registration form or shared through Google Drive).

All participants will be required to be on WLU’s campus and in the Hall of Fine Arts, room F210 by 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29 to learn the opening dance number, choreographed by Warren.

PRIZE MONEY

$500 will be awarded to the Outstanding Performer or first place winner.
