WHEELING, W.Va. – August 27, 2026 – Wheeling Heritage and the Wheeling Artisan Shop are inviting local artists to help create a piece of Wheeling history for the 2026 holiday season.
For the second consecutive year, artists are invited to submit an original design for a limited-edition pewter holiday ornament. This year’s ornament will celebrate the historic Ohio Valley General Hospital (OVGH) Tower and will be sold exclusively at the Wheeling Artisan Shop.
“We’re excited to have local artists play a role in creating this year’s ornament once again and capturing a piece of Wheeling’s history in a way people can enjoy for years to come,” said Scott Schenerlein, executive director of Wheeling Heritage. “With the community commemorating the OVGH Tower and the letters being installed at Robrecht Riverfront Park, this felt like great timing, and an opportunity to celebrate a recognizable part of Wheeling.”
Artists have until Sept. 14 to submit their designs. Designs must follow the specified formatting guidelines, and cash prizes will be awarded to the top two finalists. The winning design will be selected through a public vote, giving the community and ornament enthusiasts an opportunity to help choose the final design. Voting details will be announced once the finalists are selected.

Design Requirements:
- No year or date may be incorporated into the design.
- Color is not necessary, as the ornament will be produced in pewter.
- Designs must not include AI-generated content.
- The finished ornament will be up to 4-by-4 inches, depending on the design.
- Preferred file type is Illustrator or another vector format
