Non-profit organizations seeking financial assistance to prevent, prepare for or respond to coronavirus may be eligible for CARES Act funding through the City of Wheeling’s Community Development Block Grant Program.
Director of Economic & Community Development Nancy Prager explained that appropriate organizations within the City of Wheeling can contact her office at (304) 234-3701 to request an application packet for Coronavirus Response Grants. The application deadline is 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 25.
“There are some specific criteria that must be met. The use of these funds is limited to the necessary and reasonable costs of activities to prevent, prepare for and respond to coronavirus,” she said. “Organizations may not submit for costs that are covered under other funding sources.”
Prager noted that eligibility guidelines can be found at the following website: https://www.hud.gov/sites/dfiles/CPD/documents/FR-6218-N-01-CDBG-CV-clean-8-7-20-header-for-posting.pdf
“Individuals with questions or problems while completing the application should not hesitate to contact my office for assistance,” she said, noting organizations must follow the application in order for the proposal to be reviewed. “We will return any and all applications that do not follow the procedures outlined in the guidelines. Proposals will be reviewed after the submission deadline.”
Prager also noted the availability of funds to public service agencies is determined by the actions of The Wheeling City Council. The acceptance of applications does not guarantee funding to public service agencies.
