The Wheeling Police Department’s Explorer Post No. 1 has officially been re-chartered with the Ohio River Valley Council and Scouts BSA for another year.  The WPD’s Explorer Post is currently the only law enforcement explorer post in the local scouting council, which serves northern West Virginia and eastern Ohio.

WPD’s Explorer Post No. 1 was created in early 2019 and serves as a community outreach tool to educate youth interested in law enforcement. The program is an offset with the Boy Scouts of America’s Explorer Program.

The Explorer Post serves as a gateway recruitment tool for Wheeling Police as well as promoting respect for the law. Police officers give the explorer’s opportunities to observe their function as Law Enforcement officers as well as their responsibilities to the community they serve.

Explorers must be a graduate from the 8th grade, currently enrolled in high school or college and be between the ages of 14-21. Those interested in applying to the explorer program can call 304-234-6434 for more information.
