Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WSO) and Kalkreuth Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. (Kalkreuth) present Music Under the Stars, the WSO’s annual Labor Day Weekend concert at Oglebay’s Anne Kuchinka Amphitheater on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at 7:30 pm.
With a presenting sponsorship from Kalkreuth, the Wheeling Symphony, under the baton of Maestro John Devlin, returns to Oglebay for Music Under the Stars on Sunday, September 4, 2022. The orchestra will be joined by guest artists Jean n’ Classics to celebrate one of The Beatles’ greatest albums – Abbey Road. The concert will begin at 7:30 pm at the Anne Kuchinka Amphitheater and conclude with a fireworks display above the park. Music Under the Stars is free and open to the public, but donations to the WSO are appreciated. A “Veranda Reception” fundraiser will be held prior to the concert on the Burton Center Porch. Reservations for the reception can be made by calling the WSO office or by visiting wheelingsymphony.com.
“Though Labor Day weekend is the ‘unofficial’ end of summer, it is actually the beginning of the WSO’s season and a reunion of sorts for the orchestra members,” says Music Director John Devlin. “This year’s concert is bound to be a favorite because just about everyone loves the music of The Beatles. With help from the talented musicians and vocalists of Jeans n’ Classics, we will be presenting the entire Abbey Road album from start to finish.”
Jean n’ Classics is a group of Canadian musicians dedicated to faithfully interpreting the music of legendary rock and pop albums and artists. Symphonies across North America have heralded the quality of Jean n’ Classic’s orchestral scores and they have appeared with the Wheeling Symphony several times over the last 15 years. For Music Under the Stars, David Blamires and three other vocalists will celebrate Abbey Road – The Beatles’ 11th studio album and the last in which all four Beatles participated. Abbey Roadwas an immediate commercial success and reached number one in the UK and US. Today it’s considered one of the greatest albums of all time.
For the second year in a row, Kalkreuth Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. will be the presenting sponsor of Music Under the Stars. Jim Hurley, President & CEO of Kalkreuth, stated that the company is happy to continue its support of the Wheeling Symphony. “Investing in our community is important to us,” says Hurley. “We are proud to live and work in a city that has such a wonderful orchestra. Music Under the Stars provides a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy the Wheeling Symphony and Oglebay Park – two great assets in the Ohio Valley.”
