Wheeling Symphony Orchestra Welcomes Antoine Clark as Assistant Conductor

Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WSO) announces that Antoine T. Clark has joined the organization as Assistant Conductor. 

After a competitive national search, the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce that Antoine T. Clark, has been named its Assistant Conductor. Mr. Clark, a native Virginian and resident of Worthington, Ohio, will begin his duties with the WSO immediately.  His first concert assignment will be the WSO’s November 20, 2021 SoundBites concert to be held at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in downtown Wheeling.

“I am delighted to join the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Conductor,” says Clark. “It’s an honor to join Maestro Devlin, the WSO staff, and musicians as the orchestra builds on its inspiring legacy by exploring new and inventive ways of bringing various classical music traditions, including the works of underrepresented composers, to the Greater Wheeling community.”

An award-winning conductor known for his engaging stage presence and advocacy for arts education, Antoine T. Clark was the 2020-2021 assistant conductor of the Chicago Sinfonietta, cover conductor with the 2021 Lancaster Festival Orchestra, and is the founding artistic and music director of the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra.

Committed to inspiring and nurturing the next generation of musicians, Mr. Clark has taught students ranging from young beginners to college music majors. He is currently the conductor and music director of the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra – Philharmonia Orchestra and music director of the Ohio Wesleyan University Chamber Orchestra.

WSO Music Director, John Devlin, looks forward to working alongside Mr. Clark, noting, “Throughout our Assistant Conductor search process, Antoine stood out for his conducting talent and his clear dedication to music and its power to do good for a community. We are so excited to welcome him as the newest member of the WSO team. Everyone in Wheeling can look forward to seeing Antoine on the podium, at symphony events, and being an ambassador for the WSO throughout our city.” 

Antoine T. Clark holds a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in clarinet performance from The Ohio State University. He also holds a Master of Music degree in clarinet performance from the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Virginia Commonwealth University.
