City of Wheeling residents who would like to receive boil order and water service interruption alerts can now do so via the Wireless Emergency Notification System (WENS), a feature on the Wheeling-Ohio County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency website.

City of Wheeling Utilities Accounting & Revenue Supervisor Marci Embrey said through WENS, the boil order and water service interruption notifications can be received via text, email or voicemail. Water customers can select any or all of the receipt options when signing up at www.ohiocountyemergency.com. Upon going to the Wheeling-Ohio County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency website, users will see in the top third of the web page, images that change. WENS is one of the options in the rotation. By clicking on the WENS graphic, users will be linked to the signup form where they can input the necessary information.

“The great thing about utilizing WENS is you can select a specific neighborhood in the City for which you want to receive the alerts,” she said.

Embrey noted that in the past, residents could sign up for alerts via the City’s website, but would receive information that may or may not pertain to their neighborhood.

“The WENS system will take the place of the email signups from the City’s website, so those who have signed up for those alerts will need to re-enroll on WENS,” she said.

The boil order and water service interruption notices will continue to be posted on the City’s website atwww.wheelingwv.gov/departments/PublicWorks/water-division.
