City Manager Robert Herron has announced Wheeling native Rochelle Barry as the City’s director of Parks and Recreation, effective Nov. 16.

“Rochelle’s education and professional experience is a great fit for this position. I believe she will do an excellent job of managing and growing the department,” Herron said.

A Wheeling resident, Barry said she is looking forward to her new role.

“It is an honor to be selected to serve as the Parks and Recreation Director for my community. I grew up in Wheeling and started my career as an intern with the Wheeling Rec Department, so I’ve always had a special place in my heart for this area. I’m excited to get to work collaborating with the community to help Wheeling continue to grow,” she said.

Barry comes to the Friendly City from Collier Township in Oakdale, Penn. where she most recently served as director of parks and recreation. Prior to that role, she was the recreation program coordinator for the township. Barry was also the recreation program director for Franklin Park Borough in Pittsburgh, and the marketing and membership services specialist for the Community & Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park in Upper Sinclair, Penn. In her spare time, she is a board member for the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society, is head coach for Girls on the Run, and volunteers for Beverly’s Birthdays.

A graduate of Central Catholic High School, Barry earned a B.S. in business administration from West Liberty University and a M.S. in exercise science and health promotion from California University of Pennsylvania.
