Wheeling’s ‘National Night Out’ Today at Wheeling Park

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Police Department and several community partners invite the public to participate in National Night Out this evening from 6-8 p.m. at Wheeling Park’s Ice Rink.

Now in its 42nd year, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

The nationwide event, held each year on the first Tuesday of August, provides an opportunity to bring police and the community together under positive circumstances. The relaxed, fun-filled ‘night out’ is geared toward enhancing relationships between residents and law enforcement to make neighborhoods safe.

The evening also allows people to learn about anti-crime awareness programs in the city, such as neighborhood watch meetings and the citizens’ police academy.

During the free two-hour event, Wheeling Police will showcase its many units and divisions, including a demonstration from its K9 Unit.

Pizza, popsicles, snacks, and drinks will be provided, and several displays from various local support agencies will also be part of the event.
