WLU and Marshall University Hosting Aviation Day Saturday

West Liberty University and Marshall University will host an Aviation Day on Saturday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport. Students and the public can learn more about West Liberty’s new aviation pilot training program.

“We are excited to host Aviation Day, a unique opportunity to experience the thrill of aviation. The event is designed to inspire and educate the community about the wonder of flight,” said Dr. Cathy Monteroso, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at West Liberty.

Faculty and staff from West Liberty and Marshall University will be on hand to answer questions throughout the interactive day. Visitors can see the Seminole and Cirrus aircraft from Marshall University at the airport. Two lucky recipients will win a flight in one of the aircraft.

There will be games and other interactive activities. The Wellsburg Chamber of Commerce will be providing lunch during the event.

“The event will be a great way to jump-start West Liberty’s Aviation program and visitors can learn more about the career opportunities in aviation,” said Monteroso.

Planning for the program has been in the works since last summer when the two universities announced they would begin a partnership to offer the program. Given the national pilot shortage, the program will meet a critical workforce need. West Liberty gained final approval last month from its accreditor to offer the program and applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2024 class.
