WLU Announces New Online Programs and Tuition Rate

West Liberty, W. Va., April 22, 2025 – Beginning in Fall 2025, West Liberty University (WLU) will expand its online offerings to include Psychology and Criminal Justice programs, alongside the existing General Business degree. Both Psychology and General Business will be available to all incoming students, while the Criminal Justice program will serve students who already hold an associate’s degree.

Additionally, the University’s Board of Governors has approved a new online undergraduate tuition rate of $375 per credit hour, available to students nationwide.

“Our new online program in Psychology and degree completion in Criminal Justice, along with our established General Business program, provide students the flexibility to advance their education,” said WLU Provost Dr. Cathy Monteroso. “With expert faculty and a career-focused curriculum, we are committed to delivering an accessible and engaging learning experience that prepares graduates for success in their fields.”

The new Office of Transfer, Online, and Lifelong Learning will support students in the online programs. The Office streamlines the transfer process and will work with students as they get started in the new online programs.

“Students with prior courses toward an associate’s degree in criminal justice can complete the 100% virtual program in as little as two years, with multiple 8-week courses offered each semester. The opportunity for summer courses exists for those wishing to finish sooner,” said Dr. Keith Bell, Chair of the WLU Criminal Justice Department.

“West Liberty’s online undergraduate psychology program will provide students with an accessible and flexible way to access high-quality instruction in a field of study that is growing rapidly,” said Dr. Tammy McClain, Chair of the WLU Psychology Department. “In addition to providing a broad foundation in psychological science, the program aims to develop in-demand skills: Learning to think critically, evaluate evidence, communicate effectively, and apply ethical decision-making—skills that employers highly value across industries.”

West Liberty University has also adopted the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), a state-of-the-art software platform that connects educators and students through teaching, course management, and engagement tools. Students will benefit from improved accessibility, seamless mobile integration, and powerful collaboration tools that promote deeper learning.
