WLU Greek Life Shares Thanksgiving Dinner with Others

-

West Liberty University’s Greek Life picked Philanthropy Day to deliver a gift that is sure to make a difference for the community.

“November 15 was World Philanthropy Day so Greek Life came together and donated $500 to their chosen cause, which was to purchase 20 full Thanksgiving dinner kits, including the turkeys, to be donated to the Arbor Food Pantry in New Cumberland,” explained Kate Billings, director of Student Activities and Title IX Coordinator.

Billings did the shopping and these dinner kits included: whole turkeys, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, rolls, gravy, cranberry sauce and cooking tins.

According to CBS news, this year’s Thanksgiving Dinner could be the most expensive ever, since food costs are rising. https://www.cbsnews.com/video/this-years-thanksgiving-dinner-could-be-the-most-expensive-ever/

“This was a great project for our sororities and fraternities. We meet monthly to discuss topics and news and the meeting held early this month resulted in this idea. It was a thought and need that everyone could rally around quickly and make it a success,” Billings said.

Turkeys ran about $20 each and the students prepared the food and arranged it in individual cooking pans to provide the recipients with a convenient way to prepare dinner.

One of our Greek presidents, Hannah Jacobs, who leads Delta Theta Kappa is from New Cumberland, W.Va. and her grandmother volunteers at that food pantry so we knew it would be welcomed there and that’s where the students took the food in time for distribution to area families.”

Greek Organizations include Alpha Xi Delta, Beta Rho Epsilon, Chi Omega, Delta Theta Kappa, Lambda Psi Sigma, Beta Theta Gamma, Chi Nu, Kappa Delta Kappa, Theta Xi and Phi Delta Theta. Approximately 250 students belong to the individual organizations.
