West Liberty University (WLU) held its Fall 2024 Commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 14, recognizing a total of 146 graduates, including 76 undergraduates, 48 graduate students, and 22 summer graduates.

Belmont Savings Bank President and CEO Todd Cover served as commencement speaker and was presented an honorary degree from the University.

“Returning to WLU to speak at commencement was a deeply meaningful moment for me. This institution played such a pivotal role in shaping who I am today, and I was thrilled to share this special day with the graduates and their families. It was a privilege to be part of this milestone and to celebrate the incredible achievements of these outstanding graduates,” Cover stated.

The day was also marked by student speaker and Glen Dale, WV native, Lakyn Parker. Parker is an education major from the College of Education and Human Performance, double minoring in early education and special education (with autism). She also graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Parker graciously thanked professors, family, friends, and God, and reflected on her educational journey by sharing a resonating quote from Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

WLU president Dr. Tim Borchers presided over the ceremony and offered words of encouragement while recognizing student’s accomplishments and future potential.

“West Liberty University is proud to produce graduates who will be leaders in their communities and professions. Many of these students have already made an impact in our community and I’m confident they will continue to do so in the years ahead,” Borchers remarked.
