World Affairs Council Announces “Global Connections of the Northern Panhandle” Event

The World Affairs Council of West Virginia will host Global Connections of the Northern Panhandle on Wednesday, September 23, from 8:00–9:00 a.m. at The Urban Collective, 1070 Market Street, Wheeling. Anyone interested in the region’s international business, cultural, and educational ties is invited to attend. The registration fee is $15 and includes a continental breakfast.  Educators may attend at no cost, but advanced registration is required.

The one‑hour program will spotlight the Northern Panhandle’s growing global footprint. According to Chad Remp of Matheny Motors and Vice Chair of the Council, “The presentation will include an overview of international investment in the region’s manufacturing sector, global initiatives at area colleges and universities, and local cultural festivals and international organizations”. Also, Remp will lead a panel discussion of four small businesses who will share information on their companies, products and their success in exporting to global markets.

The Council is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with the mission to highlight West Virginia’s global connections and strengthen awareness and understanding of international issues. The Council was launched earlier this year in Charleston and is rolling out a series of regional events across the state. The Wheeling event is the first in the series.
