Would you like to know how you can positively impact children’s lives?

Attend the free bowling party sponsored by Youth Services System, Inc. and St. Clair Lanes on Saturday, September 30, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This event is open to anyone interested in mentoring a youth ages 6 to 17. Those attending are invited to participate in free bowling, pizza, and drinks generously offered by St. Clair Lanes owner Gary Holubeck. The event is an opportunity to make a meaningful connection and learn more about making a positive impact with youth.

According to Ashley Flaherty, Youth Mentoring Network Coordinator, “The Youth Mentoring Network needs adult volunteers, as the demand for positive role models for children continues to increase. The event will provide an opportunity for those interested in their mentoring program to ask questions, get to know the organization, and enjoy some pizza.” Flaherty emphasizes that being a mentor doesn’t require special skills but rather a compassionate individual who wants to impact a child’s life positively.

Adults interested in mentoring must be at least 18 years old.  They can be individuals or couples, college students, empty nesters, or retirees. Mentors are asked to spend at least four hours per month with their mentees. Flaherty said, “There are so many options for the mentors and mentees to spend time, and YSS even schedules events for the Youth Mentoring Network.

“We offer activities once a month, and it could be anything from mini golf to attending a Nailers’ game,” she said. “The mentee or the mentor can do a number of things. It could be movies, board games, cooking, or bowling. Activities depend on their relationship.”
