March 7th Black Balloon Day to Raise Awareness for Overdose Deaths

-

The RISE Prevention Coalition will be sponsoring Black Balloon Day on March 7, 2022. Black Balloon Day is a remembrance day for those who have lost their lives to overdose. The day is traditionally honored on March 6th every year, but this year we will be officially observing it on March 7th as the 6th is a Sunday.

Drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the United States. Black Balloon Day was created by the family of Greg Tremblay, a 38-year-old father of four who passed from an overdose on March 6, 2015. The day was started by his mother- and sister-in-law to honor Greg and to raise awareness of the opioid crisis. Since its creation, this has become a worldwide event.

To participate, we are asking if businesses, organizations, and community members would hang a black balloon and sign to remember those that we have lost to overdose and raise awareness for the opioid crisis. We are also asking those who are willing to wear black on that day. If you would like to receive a sign and balloon, please email us at risepreventioncoalition@gmail.com or call (304) 975-2112.

We hope that you will join us in remembering those we have lost to overdose.
