Donation Drive Provides Ohio County Schools with Hundreds of Books

-

Ohio County Schools students are benefitting from a generous initiative by a local business.

Books-A-Million at The Highlands held a donation drive over the summer for customers to purchase books for Ohio County Schools students. Customers selected books from a list of favorites provided by school system administrators and teachers based on their popularity with students. The books are still being delivered to the schools.

Ohio County Schools Federal Programs and Assessment Director Walt Saunders said the school system and its students appreciate Books-A-Million for the project. He said it has provided hundreds of books for students at Madison Elementary School, Middle Creek Elementary School, Ritchie Elementary School, Steenrod Elementary School and Wheeling Park High School.

“This is a great program that makes students excited to read,” Saunders said. “There are so many options for the students in terms of selection. There are all-time classics and some of the most popular books going. This is a great program, and I thank Books-A-Million and everyone who purchased a book for this program.

Books-A-Million at The Highlands General Manager Aaron Baker said the book drive that benefits Ohio County Schools students is a source of pride for the business. He said it is an effort he looks forward to each year.

“We love being able to help the schools, and we really appreciate helping the community in any way we can,” Baker said.
