City of Wheeling Now Accepting CDBG Applications from Non-Profits

-

The City of Wheeling’s Economic and Community Development Department is now accepting applications from public service agencies for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. The deadline for submissions is 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23.

Director of Economic and Community Development Nancy Prager said eligible projects must meet one of the CDBG program’s three broad national objectives: benefit low-and-moderate income persons; aid in the prevention or elimination of slum or blight; or meet community development needs having a particular urgency.

Applications are available at the City-County Building, 1500 Chapline Street, Room 305 or on the City’s website at https://www.wheelingwv.gov/departments/Economic-CommunityDevelopment/community-development-block-grant.

“The instructions in the application must be followed to a tee for the proposals to be reviewed. Any application that does not follow the procedures specified in the guidelines will be returned to the agency and that non-profit will not be eligible for this round of CDBG funds,” she said, noting the proposal should include only supplies or activity costs associated with the needed services the agency provides. Applications submitted for administrative or operating expenses will not be reviewed.

Those with questions about the application can contact the Office of Economic and Community Development at (304) 234-3701.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is the Federal agency that oversees the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.  CDBG funds are Federal dollars granted annually to the City of Wheeling from HUD to make improvements to our community.
