The Wheeling Police Department, along with several community partners, invites the public to participate in National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 6-8 p.m. at Wheeling Park’s Ice Rink.

Now in its 41st year, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

The nationwide event, held each year on the first Tuesday of August, provides an opportunity to bring police and the community together under positive circumstances. The relaxed, fun-filled ‘night out’ is geared toward enhancing relationships between residents and law enforcement to make neighborhoods safe.

The evening also allows people to learn about anti-crime awareness programs in the city, such as neighborhood watch meetings and the citizen’s police academy.

During the free two-hour event, Wheeling Police will showcase its many units and divisions, including a demonstration from its K9 Unit.

Pizza, popsicles, and drinks will be provided and several displays from various local support agencies also will be part of the event.
