Ohio County Schools Foundation Adds Two New Scholarships

For the last several years, Ohio County Schools Foundation has worked with patrons invested in the public school system to ensure graduates have ample opportunities.

The Foundation website explains, “The Ohio County Schools Foundation is a means through which citizens, businesses, industries, agencies, and others may make gifts or bequests to Ohio County Public Schools for either general or specific use. The Foundation allows contributions by those who feel affection and a sense of responsibility for the school system.”

More than 30 scholarship options exist due to donations made to The Foundation. Thanks to the Hon. and Mrs. David B. McKinley, two new scholarships have now been created: the Mary Elizabeth Gerkin Music Scholarship, and the Richard Gerkin Career and Technical Education (CTE) Scholarship.

Both scholarships require the students to carry a 3.0 or higher overall GPA, complete a written essay, demonstrate good citizenship, and plan to pursue a career in that specific field.  The scholarship application is now open for students attending Wheeling Park High School.

The Foundation directly supports students as they aim to achieve their postsecondary goals.  By contributing to the future, our benefactors make an investment in the quality of life for all citizens of our community and beyond.
