Dear DOH:
We know you know where these tire poppers and rim benders are, and we appreciate that the time is coming close for you to fill them with asphalt. We’re also aware the springtime temperatures have been too up-and-down for the asphalt company to begin production, and that we have to be patient.
It’s tough, though. Especially when we see a new pothole forming, and it looks to be deeper than the rest. It’s the time of year when motorists can only hope law enforcement understands and won’t take time to pull over a driver simply because they are swerving to miss potholes and not because they are intoxicated in any way.
Does it seem worse this year than in the past? Are there more potholes this year than ever before? We did have a “real” winter, after all. We did that the big snow followed by weeks of frigidness … did that intense freeze and slow thaw crumble even more roadways than in years past?
Sure seems like it.
Do we need to submit photos so you can build a list? If so, just ask. As you can see, we’re already capturing images of these suspension assassins.
Well, good luck, be careful, and please hurry along. As West Virginia’s citizenry often reminds our government, the law requires us to purchase registration and inspection stickers for vehicles each and every year, and those dollars are supposed to go toward road maintenance, but these potholes make it tough to believe that’s where our money flows.
We pray you change our minds soon.
Sincerely,
Save Us
p.s. Please forward this correspondence to the folks across the river at ODOT District 11. Thanks in advance.
