WHEELING, W.Va. — The stakes could not be any higher.
The American Arena League playoffs have arrived, and on Saturday, June 27, the road to a championship once again runs through WesBanco Arena as your Wheeling Miners host the Jersey Bearcats in a win-or-go-home playoff showdown.
But playoff football is only part of the experience.
The Miners are proud to announce that Upper Ohio Valley favorites “Kanawha” will provide in-game entertainment and a special halftime performance during Saturday night’s playoff battle.
But “Kanawha” is more than a band. They’re a piece of the Upper Ohio Valley. Brothers Marc and Matt Baker grew up surrounded by the sounds of their family’s honky-tonk roots. After Matt met his wife, Lauren, while attending West Liberty University, the trio found a chemistry that helped create the unmistakable “Kanawha” sound.
Blending Americana, bluegrass, classic rock, jam bands, country, and electric violin improvisation, “Kanawha” delivers a musical experience that feels both familiar and completely their own. As the trio approaches nearly 20 years of performing throughout the valley, they have become known for their high-energy shows, unique arrangements, and the kind of performances that turn first-time listeners into lifelong fans.
Saturday night brings together two things the Upper Ohio Valley does better than anyone: football and music.
The Miners will battle the Jersey Bearcats with a trip deeper into the playoffs hanging in the balance. The crowd will be louder. The hits will be harder. The stakes will be higher.
And between the whistles, “Kanawha” will bring the energy that has made them one of the region’s favorite live acts.
If you’ve never experienced playoff football at WesBanco Arena, this is your chance. If you’ve never seen “Kanawha” live, this is your chance.
And if you’ve experienced both, then you already know why Saturday night will be one of the biggest nights of the summer in downtown Wheeling. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
